Cecilia ThorfinnCecilia by computer
Founder and Managing Director.

Hi everyone, I’m Cecilia, a Swedish mother of a girl named Eleonore. I suppose I am an accidental entrepreneur, as my professional background is in European Affairs, and I worked as an international civil servant at the European Commission in Brussels for 10 years from 1997 — 2007.

But all that changed forever one morning in my kitchen in Brussels a few years ago. I was standing with my newborn baby on one arm, and a cup of coffee in the other. The words of my brother, who is a plastic surgeon and operates on burns victims,  was ringing in my ears – you must let your cup stand and cool off for a whole 15 minutes before it is safe – water warmer than 60 degrees will cause a 3rd degree burn within 3 seconds on your baby.

And then the thought suddenly crossed my mind: I need a MummyMug. Something that will allow me to still enjoy my drink without risking causing an accident.  It would have to be something stylish, and something that closed up after every sip, so I would not have to worry about closing a lid manually. The idea for the MummyMug had entered my heart and was not going to go away!

Since then I have been busy developing the MummyMug product concept and am proud to bring it to market, to make the life of children a bit safer, and the life of mothers and fathers a little bit more relaxed. It has turned into a fully fledged enterpreneurial adventure; getting me in contact with amazing people, taking me to all sorts of places and presenting me with a new challenge every day.

Being a mother as well as an entrepreneur, I have found out I am earning a place in a clan of brave, enthusiastic women out there, calling themselves Mompreneurs: women who choose to combine the joys and responsibilities of parenting of a child, with the joys and responsibilities of managing a company. I found it a great lifestyle: I probably work more than ever, but I manage my own time and can usually balance the various elements of my life.

If you want to know more about what motivates me to make my MummyMug dream come true, please follow my blog! Hoping to also hear about your ideas and inspirations in life.
